Our Members

Members of the Nebraska Table are nonprofit, nonpartisan organizations that are committed to engaging with voters and members of their communities; growing grassroots mobilization efforts; and collaborating with nonprofits doing similar work in other communities throughout the state.

These organizations conduct direct voter contact or other civic engagement activities. Member nonprofits have access to the Table’s tools, resources, and a team of subject matter experts to help build power in their communities.

ACLU of Nebraska

The ACLU is our nation's guardian of liberty, working daily in courts, legislatures and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties that the United States Constitution and laws of Nebraska guarantee everyone in the Cornhusker state.

Arc of Nebraska

The Arc of Nebraska exists to see all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities live meaningful lives within the communities of their choice. They are dedicated to raising awareness of their cause and advocating with and for those in need.

Asian Community and Cultural Center

Asian Community and Cultural Center supports and empowers all refugees and immigrants through programs and services and advances the sharing of Asian culture and other cultural heritages of our clients with the community at large.

Black Votes Matter Institute of Community Engagement

The Black Votes Matter Institute of Community Engagement works to increase voter turnout, especially black voters. Their focus in this is directed toward black votes (or lack thereof). Their goal is to generate strong voting and voter participation so as to generate positive results for the community.

Bold Alliance (founding member)

A founding member, Bold Nebraska is a member of the larger group Bold Alliance who work to land and water. Bold Nebraska is an active participant in much community mobility. Everything from fighting against harmful pipeline projects to engaging our state representatives, Bold Nebraska is interested in working alongside “farmers, ranchers, Tribal Nations and citizens” to make necessary change in Nebraska! They are “in the streets, corn fields and in the State Capitol standing up for property rights and standing with citizens as [they] work to protect the land, water and climate.” Nebraska ranks number 4 in total agricultural production and that is why we as a state need “small but mighty” agencies like Bold Alliance.

Center for Rural Affairs (founding member)

A founding member, the Center for Rural Affairs describes themselves as, “unapologetically rural.” They “stand up for the small family farmer and rancher, new business owner, and rural communities.” CFRA supports small businesses by offering loan opportunities for up to 20,000 or 50,000 dollars. They also offer in person and online trainings regarding topics such as e-commerce and m-commerce. They offer information around rural healthcare in English and Spanish (as a great percentage of rural Nebraskans are migrant workers) as well as support policies regarding the expansion of Medicaid. They do not just work at a legislative level, they all work with community members to empower new rural leaders and to oppose school consolidation that can negatively affect educational achievement.

Centro Hispano

Centro Hispano provides a number of immigration services in order to engage the community in civil activities and bridge the gap between different cultures, encourage community involvement and higher education among youth, and provide guidance along the path to citizenship by providing affordable immigration services at low cost and referrals to community member in the greater Columbus, Nebraska area.

El Centro Hispano provee una cantidad de servicios de inmigración para atraer a la comunidad en actividades cívicas y crear puentes entre diferentes culturas, promover envolvimiento comunitario y educación superior entre los jóvenes, y guiar el camino hacia la ciudadanía, proporcionando servicios de inmigración a bajo costo y referencias a los miembros de la comunidad de Columbus, Nebraska, y sus alrededores.

Civic Nebraska (founding member)

Civic Nebraska is a group of dedicated and politically diverse young Nebraskan professionals who are committed to making our civic institutions more inclusive among youth and historically disadvantaged and disengaged populations. Civic Nebraska achieves this by engaging our youth in our community and building leadership skills.

Common Cause (founding member)

Common Cause Nebraska is the Nebraska chapter and of a national entity and one of our founding members. They are a “nonpartisan grassroots organization dedicated to upholding the core values of American democracy. We work to create open, honest, and accountable government that serves the public interest; promote equal rights, opportunity, and representation for all; and empower all people to make their voices heard in the political process” With offices in 30/50 states their website makes it easy to figure out what is happening locally and nationally. They provide an opportunity to dig deeper into issues facing Nebraskans such as “Money in Politics” and “Access for Government”. Under their Take Action drop down menu you can find your elected officials by entering your physical address. It includes both federal and state legislators. If you move forward to can see the bills sponsored by your state representatives, committees they sit on and, any major political contributions. Common Cause makes necessary information more easily accessible and clear.

Community Justice Center

The Community Justice Center (CJC) is the leading Restorative Justice practitioner and educator in the State of Nebraska. We offer unique evidence-based Victim Impact/Empathy peer programming that inspires offenders and helps participants understand who their victims are and the true extent of the harm they caused their victims and communities. We utilize Restorative Justice Practices to habilitate offenders while holding them accountable for their actions. We reduce recidivism rates for a better, safer, and more cost effective criminal justice system.

Comunidad Maya: Pixan Ixim

Comunidad Maya Pixan Ixim: Reinforcing Our Roots, Living Our Maya Heritage (CMPI) is an organization of the Maya community in the State of Nebraska. CMPI collaborates with local organizations and educational institutions to promote spiritual enrichment, cultural awareness, ongoing education, and improved access to health care for the Mayans in Nebraska. Through its Maya Student Association and its Maya Leadership Development Center as well as its Education, Arts and Culture, Health, and Pastoral Care Initiatives, CMPI improves the lives of the Maya while promoting their integration with and furthering their contributions to the wider Omaha and Nebraska community.

Conservation Nebraska protects our state’s natural legacy by educating the public, supporting communities, and increasing civic engagement.

Culxr House

Culxr House

Culxr House is a community cultural center that provides artists, musicians, and activists a safe space to create and engage while hosting a multitude of community events from civic engagement forums, art shows, music performances, and more.

Disability Rights Nebraska

Disability Rights Nebraska

With two offices in Nebraska (Lincoln and Scottsbluff) the Disability Rights Nebraska was created to assist individuals with disabilities and their families in protecting and advocating for their rights. From its beginning, Disability Rights Nebraska has promoted the principles of equality, self-determination, and dignity of persons with disabilities. They do this by investigating “incidents of abuse and neglect and may provide legal representation to protect the legal and human rights of people with disabilities.” Their website links a downloadable fact sheet in English and Spanish that includes information about policy and advocacy work in Nebraska. Additionally there are helpful infographics found under their What We Do tab. The Civic Engagement Table is especially pleased to see the information about voter rights as they apply to people with disabilities.

East African Development Association of Nebraska

EADAN provide services and support to refugees and immigrants, promote awareness and advocacy for quality, inclusive service as well as for community place and spaces that are welcoming of refugee and immigrant children and their families.

Eastern Nebraska Community Action Partnership

ENCAP is the Community Action Agency serving Douglas County and Sarpy County and its mission is to provide high-impact programs to help people get ahead. The people we serve—most of whom are living in poverty or near poverty—are resilient and working hard to reach economic security. In both counties, individuals and families know ENCAP as an agency ready to work with them to build a brighter future, and peers know us as a trusted, people-centered partner. With its main hub in North Omaha and providing services via the Bellevue Pantry to greater Sarpy County, ENCAP provides services to nearly 16,000 individuals annually.

El Centro de las Americas

El Centro, originally known as the Hispanic Community Center (HCC), was founded in 1982 and became a 501 ( c ) (3) nonprofit in 1983.For over 35 years, we have provided services in the areas of education, family support, youth empowerment, health, and resource navigation. El Centro’s bilingual and bicultural staff’s objective is to provide our clients with professional and courteous services.

Elevate Omaha

Elevate Omaha provides young people with opportunities to participate and develop skills in youth-led participatory action research, technical assistance, advocacy, and grantmaking.

Empowering Families: Empoderando Familias

Empowering Families is a non-profit organization in Scottsbluff that works to build a strong and welcoming community through education, civic participation, and individual empowerment. Like many organizations, Empowering Families first began as a group of community leaders with a desire to create change within the Latino community. That desire has grown to become something bigger, it has become a desire of “empowering families” to be better not only for themselves but for their community. This includes becoming civically engaged, informed in better ways to support their students meet their educational goals, and involved in the decisions and activities that affect the community of Scottsbluff and the surrounding areas.

Empowerment Network

Empowerment Network works to transform the economic condition and quality of life of African‐Americans, North Omaha residents, and citizens of the Greater Omaha area. Their vision is that Omaha will be recognized as a fully engaged and empowered community where African‐Americans, North Omaha residents, and citizens in every zip code are thriving and prosperous—spiritually, mentally, physically, socially, and financially.

Green Omaha Coalition

Green Omaha Coalition’s mission is to inform and connect people across the Omaha metro to strengthen the local green community by placing an emphasis on member and community collaboration, public education, and environmental sustainability advocacy efforts.

Habitat for Humanity Omaha

Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

Heartland Workers Center (founding member)

Heartland Workers Center’s goal is to improve the quality of life of Latino/a immigrant workers by promoting leadership development, workers’ rights, and civic engagement through legal information sharing, training, and organizing.

I Be Black Girl

I Be Black Girl is a reproductive justice organization that advocates birth justice by catalyzing a movement to disrupt systems that perpetuate incidences of maternal morbidity, mortality, and traumatic care experiences, while also supporting Black women in business and empowering Black girls.

inCOMMON

inCOMMON Community Development aims to unite and strengthen vulnerable neighborhoods. They have worked to achieve this mission by creating a variety of programs aimed at strengthening relationships between people in the community, as well as helping individuals escape poverty and be heard.

Institute for Public Leadership

Institute for Public Leadership (IPL) provides leadership development, skills training, research and organizing support to people from diverse faith traditions, racial and ethnic origins, and socio-economic backgrounds from across the Omaha metropolitan area so they can be effective agents of positive change in their communities.

Karen Society of Nebraska

Karen Society of Nebraska helps refugees and immigrants from Burma achieve self-sufficiency and a high quality of life in Nebraska by providing a number of services, such as document assistance, finding employment, addressing women’s issues, and youth and cultural programming.

Latino Center of the Midlands

Throughout its 45-year history, Latino Center of the Midlands evolved to become one of the most respected Hispanic organizations in Metro Omaha. It will continue to play a key role as Hispanics become the country’s largest and fastest-growing ethnic minority. Initially called the Chicano Awareness Center, the organization works to change lives at the local level by promoting employability, ensuring student access, cultural transition, and family well-being assistance.

League of Women Voters of Greater Omaha

The League of Women Voters of Greater Omaha, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

The League of Women Voters of Nebraska, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

Malcom X Memorial Foundation (founding member)

The Malcolm X Memorial Foundation, in concert with local, national, and international supporters of El Hajj Malik El-Shabazz (Malcolm X), endeavors to perpetuate his uncompromising leadership and contributions towards social justice.

Malone Community Center

The mission of the Malone Center is to strengthen Lincoln’s African American community. To do so, the Malone Center provides the foundation for educational, cultural and advocacy programs for all Lincolnites. The Malone Center’s programs range from out of school programs to minority health initiatives with ample opportunities for volunteering and community involvement.

Metropolitan Young Latinos Professionals Association

MYLPA’s mission is to amplify the power of Latinos through civic and professional engagement. We generate engagement in several ways: raising money for our annual scholarship for DREAMers, training Latinos in board governance, hosting professional development workshops, hosting social/professional networking events, coordinating community service activities for our members, and creating a roster of Latino mentors for students and young professionals.

Nebraska Appleseed is a nonprofit organization that fights for justice and opportunity for all Nebraskans. We take a systemic approach to complex issues – such as child welfare, immigration policy, affordable healthcare and poverty – and we take our work wherever we believe we can do the most good, whether that’s at the courthouse, in the statehouse or in the community.

Nebraska Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence

The Nebraska Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence enhances safety and justice by changing the beliefs and behaviors, and dismantling the systems that perpetuate sexual and domestic violence, human trafficking, stalking, and other forms of violence.

Nebraskans Against Gun Violence

The Coalition of Nebraskans Against Gun Violence works to educate Nebraskans about issues arising from firearms in civil society. They also do work with respect to adoption, implementation, and enforcement of state and federal laws pertaining to firearms.

Neighborworks Lincoln

NeighborWorks Lincoln is a non-profit organization dedicated to community revitalization through an active partnership of resident leaders, private businesses and public officials. We open doors for people to achieve their dreams of homeownership and for others who desire a safe and attractive neighborhood.

New Life Family Alliance exists to lay the foundation for all of Nebraska’s families to thrive by influencing family policy through research and education.

North Omaha Community Partnership

North Omaha Community Partnership promotes crime prevention, conflict resolution, suicide prevention and crisis intervention and offers resources to the community, such as crisis assistance, food pantries, mental and behavioral health assistance, youth programming, and community feeding events.

The mission of the North Omaha Neighborhood Alliance is to improve the quality of life in our community by: Connecting, Communicating, Coordinating, Collaborating, and Celebrating.

One Omaha focuses on community and neighborhood development through education, training, and engagement by building human, technical, and conceptual skills which sustain civic and community efforts.

Planned Parenthood North Central States

Supported by volunteers, partially funded by generous donations and staffed by dedicated and professional employees, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland continues its tradition of providing accessible, affordable reproductive healthcare and education and advocacy for reproductive rights.

RISE

The mission of RISE is to transform and connect people to build thriving communities. At RISE, transformation starts pre-release and continues post-release. Our inside/out model bridges incarceration to the community and considers all the critical steps in that journey. We prepare and train people for each phase through intensive character development, employment readiness, job creation through entrepreneurship and case management. We transform people in the community by building awareness and empathy that leads to support and opportunity. These connections heal families, create employment pathways and lower recidivism.

Somali American Heritage Society of Nebraska

Somali American Heritage Society of Nebraska (SAHSON) is a non-profit organization which strives to help Somali-American Nebraskans integrate while also introducing Somali culture into American society. They work toward these goals by providing educational services and forums for learning Somali language, literature, history, and culture, establishing dialogue among communities, encouraging voter registration, and cultivating friendships to promote cultural understanding.

The Somali Community Services is a community-based organization that works to improve the health, safety, and productivity of the Somalis in Omaha through culturally competent services, information and resources. The organization was founded to advocate and promote self-sufficiency through employment, education, and economic empowerment for the Somali community and other immigrants and to provide cultural and social support regardless of color, race, ethnicity, religion, economic status and other distinctions.

South of Downtown Community Development Organization

South of Downtown Community Development Organization preserves the rich history and diversity of existing neighborhoods by developing cross sector collaborations and creating opportunities for community members to improve their quality of life. South of Downtown Community Development Organization enhances vibrant neighborhoods that provide equitable opportunities for all to thrive through the values of Inclusivity, Accessibility, Community-based work, Integrity, Resident-centered work, and Innovation.

South Omaha Neighborhood Alliance

South Omaha Neighborhood Alliance enhances South Omaha neighborhoods through communication, community collaborations, empowering families & promoting positive perceptions.

Stand for Schools

Stand for Schools works to advance public education in Nebraska by supporting policies that will further strengthen public schools and allow every Nebraskan to develop the skills they need to thrive.

The Bay

The mission of the Bay, formerly Rabble Mill, is to provide economically and culturally disadvantaged youth with the belonging and purpose they need to grow and reinvest in their community. They do it through programming like their for-youth-by-youth print publication, Rabble Mag, out-of-school workshops, and their digital media lab, all focused on the subcultures of skateboarding, music, and art.

Unity in Action

Unity in Action was initiated by community leaders and volunteers who perceived a need for support and guidance in our Latino community. Unity in Action seeks to empower Latinos by promoting workers' rights, civic engagement and justice through education, training, and advocacy. Their vision is to use education and information to ensure that every person and family achieves their maximum potential.

Urban League of Nebraska

Urban League of Nebraska

The ULNYP serves as a base of support for the Urban League of Nebraska and their respective initiatives, increase community involvement of members through development initiatives within the Urban League, strengthen leadership and professional development of members through organized activities, promote the Urban League and its mission, and provide a comprehensive orientation to the Urban League movement for new members.

Voices for Children in Nebraska is the independent voice building pathways to opportunity for all children and families through research, policy and community engagement. It is a statewide child advocacy organization that gathers information about how Nebraska children are faring, and distribute that information to places where it can make a difference on the state, national, city, and county level.

The Women’s Fund of Omaha examines issues and conducts research to provide informed support for initiatives that improve the lives of metropolitan area women and girls. They work to improve the lives of Omaha-area women by identifying critical issues including economic conditions, domestic violence, and women in leadership positions. The goal is for women to receive full partnership in Omaha communities.

You GO Girl Omaha

You Go Girl seeks to end the cycle of self-doubt and low self-esteem by creating a unique experience promoting self-love & awareness, physical & mental health, & education.

YWCA Grand Island

YWCA Grand Island is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. Their programs include babysitting classes, childcare, transportation services, self-defense classes, Spanish classes, and anti-racism events. YWCA Grand Island also host meetings and community events at its facilities and partners with a variety of other local organizations. They regularly recognize outstanding women in their community and have been operating in Hall County for over 100 years.

YWCA Lincoln

YWCA seeks to empower women and eliminate racism in Nebraska. Specifically, YWCA offers programs addressing structural racism and empowerment, and also offers health services to women and girls. With grassroots organizing in Lincoln and across the country, YWCA is dedicated to social justice and strives to positively impact the lives of Nebraskans.
